We have 13 students returning as mentors, totaling 19 mentors for the 2012-2013 academic year. The following students will join us in mentoring first-year AMSTEMM students admitted to UK in the Fall from the Appalachian Region or diverse students with science or engineering majors. These students will join mentors from the Robinsons Scholar Program and Student Support Services in a training program later this summer. <br>

Danee Trowell was born in New Jersey but grew up in Louisville KY. She lived in many states as a military child but is very excited to study abroad in Madrid, Spain the summer of 2011. She is currently a Pre-med student studying Biology (major)/ Spanish (minor) at the University of Kentucky. She has a twin brother and am the 4th of 6 children. <br />

Suri, a native of India, is the author of the novels "The Death of Vishnu" and "The Age of Shiva." He is also a mathematics professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He performs research in numerical analysis, while spending increasing amounts of time working to bring mathematics to the general public.<br />

Everyone in the course must be actively engaged (on average 10 hours/week) in a research or scholarly project under the mentorship of a UK faculty member. Your mentor and your major courses will teach you most of the discipline-specific knowledge that you will need for your mentored research.</span></span><br />

You will develop or strengthen your skills with word processing, graphics input and processing, and presentations. You will keep an electronic journal, both to strengthen your writing and to reflect on the course material, and there will be practical assignments. The final project will be a publishable abstract of your mentored research. </span></span><br />
